Understanding White Noise Playback on the HDS2 Camera
It’s important to clarify how the HDS2 Baby Monitor handles white noise playback. Contrary to some expectations, the camera itself does not automatically play white noise. Instead, white noise (along with the 5 pre-programmed lullabies) is remotely controlled via the Parent Unit.
If you wish to play white noise on a specific camera, you must first select that individual camera view on the Parent Unit. Only then can you activate the white noise feature for that camera.
Here’s how to ensure white noise plays correctly:
- On the Parent Unit, select the camera you want to play the white noise on.
- Enter the lullaby menu by pressing the 🎵 icon and follow the steps shown in the image above.
- Choose the "White Noise" option and confirm your duration and volume settings.
Note: You need to repeat this process for each camera individually if you want white noise played on multiple cameras. It is not a global setting.
VOX Mode and White Noise – Not Compatible
We've also had questions about using VOX mode in combination with white noise playback. Unfortunately, this is not possible.
VOX mode is designed to detect sound and only transmit video/audio when the baby makes a noise. However, if white noise is playing, the system cannot distinguish it from other environmental or baby-related sounds. As a result, white noise could prevent VOX from functioning correctly, causing either:
- False triggers (constantly turning the screen on), or
- Missed detection of actual baby cries.
Therefore, for best results:
- Use VOX mode without white noise, or
-
Use white noise with continuous transmission, but disable VOX.
